YOU NEED TO WATCH A MOVIE
Each movie in Unit Three deals with multiple themes, such as power, death, gender, identity, race, reality vs. fantasy, storytelling, immigration, trauma, time, etc. Pick one movie ( use the movie “A monster calls” made in 2016) and one theme (or two closely related themes) and analyze how the text presents the theme(s) and to what end. Make sure to present an argument about what the movie says on the theme(s) (and how it does so), rather than simply pointing out areas where the theme(s) exist(s).
Whatever you choose, your essay must have a strong central claim and present a sustained analysis. You must make sure to ground your analysis in the text and regularly reference it closely (via quotes, paraphrase, etc.) from it to support and illustrate your points.
The final draft of this essay must be a minimum of 1750 words.
Besides the chosen primary text, you must use at least two external sources for the paper, quoting directly from them. These sources do not have to be academic but must be written (i.e. not just audio or video) texts by specific, identifiable authors and cannot come from a reference work (e.g. no dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.). You can use more than two sources if you wish. Make sure to list your external source(s) in a Works Cited section in proper MLA format, as well as to provide quotations and citations in the body of the essay, as needed. Absences and errors in these areas will lead to significant grade reduction.
