In this assignment you are finalizing the thesis, the structure of your final paper, including your
final outline and your final bibliography. Much of the research towards your Final Paper must be
already done by this point. This means that you have read the primary sources and are familiar
with the historical critiques of the apologetic argument as presented by your focus.
The outline represents the structure of your paper, as best suited to the development of your
thesis. The thesis represents the point you want to drive across through your paper. For example,
you may want to show that C. S. Lewis’ argument for miracles is still relevant today, despite
historical critiques. A thesis can only be formulated once you have engaged with a substantive
number of sources and you have had time to determine your position.
There are no strict requirements for the specific sections of your paper. However, the suggested
structure below will give you an idea of how your paper may look. Please use the Research
Paper: Crafting the Argument template provided.
Suggested Structure of Final Paper
Your paper must bring a particular apologetics argument into creative and critical conversation
with a contemporary intellectual and apologetics context. Therefore, your research will focus on
2 areas: (a) understanding the particular apologetics argument in its own apologetics context; and
(b) identifying aspects of our intellectual context that are relevant for that particular apologetics
argument, as developed by your selected figure. The critical dialogue between these two
horizons (past and present) should assess the applicability of the historic apologetics argument
into a contemporary setting.
