Our group project is going to focus on generational differences and stereotypes and how pop culture can positively and negatively impact those stereotypes. We will also examine the relationship between different generations in different settings, such as the workplace, while focusing specifically on Gen Z.
Propaganda theory: it is mainly older individuals who own/control the media so it could be biased against Gen Z.
Moral panic theory: Young individuals are often the ones pushing the boundary of moral order in the eyes of older generations which could have influence on how they view the younger generation.
Functionalist Theory: claims that popular culture brings solidarity to a society. Could show the positive impacts of stereotypes associated with specific generations
Critical theory: claims that popular culture coerces society to believe in the ideas of the dominant culture. Could support the negatives to the stereotypes and how lack of recognition of these generational differences separates society.

This peer reviewed article discusses the different generational perspectives on pop culture. Shackleford focuses on a newer board game called “Mind the Gap” which provides a fun way for people associated with generations as far as “boomers” to “Gen Z” to connect and understand what is/was popular during each time period of their generations. This can be connected to a functionalist perspective on how pop culture can bring us together; as long as people take the time to understand generational differences, then maybe society can steer away from stereotyping.
