First, give an overview of the topic you chose, and explain the general problem or issue. Then, describe in detail two or three of the various positions,
viewpoints, or solutions that different thinkers and philosophers have established thus far on your topic. For each viewpoint or argument, you need to explain the basics of the argument, being sure to identify its key thinkers, define important terms, and explain the argument(s) thoroughly. I also expect you to mention common critiques and criticisms of each viewpoint. You can reference other thinkers as needed. Cite all sources using MLA formatting. In this part of the essay, do your best not to merely revert to your own feelings, experiences, or opinions about the topic. Instead, be fair and charitable to the views that other thinkers have expressed. I want to see an accurate depiction of the various views and solutions that have already been given. Cite all
sources using MLA formatting. Next after you have described the state of the issue and described the various solutions that others have presented, you will then develop and express
your own view on the topic. In other words, I want to see you add your own voice to the conversation. You can (1) completely agree with one of the views that you discussed and explain why; (2) partially agree with one of the views that you discussed and explain how that view could be better; or (3) disagree with all the current solutions and present your own solution. I want to see you use your critical thinking skills to express your thoughts on the topic.
The information we have covered in class should be sufficient for this assignment since I do not consider this to be a research paper. However, if you want to look into some of the already existing views on the topic you have chosen, you can visit Stanford e or the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy c . Again this isn’t necessary, but you might find you resonate with a view that we didn’t talk about in class. You are more than welcome to bring in these outside
sources. Please cite all sources (including those used in class) in MLA format and include a bibliography page. Please note that all material on Canvas, iswritten by me unless otherwise noted.
