4-5 page essay (not including the title page or reference sheet) with at least 3 sources (4 if you want full points) written in third person.
Choose a current event that is substantially related to your state or local economics, find and read at least three articles about the event. (Do not choose national or international macroeconomic issues.)
Once you read the articles, you are to demonstrate that you have complete understanding of the event. You are to use your own words, unless citing a source, and then you must include an in-text citation.
Your introduction should describe the event, what happened and explain in detail and answer all of the questions: who, what, when, where, why and how. Remember to include a one sentence, thesis statement in your first paragraph that lets the reader know everything they are about to read, including your declarative position regarding your topic.
Next, give some history behind your event.
What are some factors that may have led up to the event?
Think about who or what is involved (a company, a country, individuals).
Were there factors involved (weather, nature, laws, etc) that were made or happened years ago that led through a chain of events up to this happening?
CONNECT the current event to at least one Microeconomic topic we have already covered in class. (There have been eight chapters thus far.) This can be woven throughout the essay.
Finally, your conclusion should include why this event is important.
Who will it impact, (businesses, citizens, and/or government)?
What will happen? (You will have to think about everyone involved, what their role is, and what they might have to do to change things.)
APA references, both in-text and a reference page. The current event article should not be your only reference. You will want to bring in other sources that back up what you main theme or topic is.
Note that this is not a report or a question/answer style paper. (Remember, you have been practicing particular parts to creating an APA formatted essay each week.)
This is an essay and should include an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
This should be written in third person. All academic papers should be unless instructed otherwise, like in English class when they are teaching you the different writing styles. (This means avoiding words such as “I”, “we”, “you”, in your writing.)
Avoid using contractions. We taught you to use them when you were young, but in academic writing you should always write out the full words unless you are quoting someone or writing dialogue. This means instead of can’t you should write cannot.
Also avoid the words “things” and “stuff”. Never make your reader guess just tell them what you mean instead.
Remember that the main point of this paper is to show your learning of economics, thus you should use terms from the 8 chapters you have read and you should explain them, as this shows that you understand what you are writing about. Examples are always great ways to show understanding as well.
This paper must be in APA format, but without an abstract. (You can find an example of an APA paper here
.) Your reference page must also be completed in APA style.
